GM! At the end of 2022 the Orbs community benchmarked the year as a strategic year of building which the likes of which would help propel Orbs to new heights. 2023 has lived up to this, with the Orbs Network setting a new benchmark in providing infrastructure to enhance decentralized automated market-making (AMM) trading. A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the developers, contributors, researchers, guardians, delegators, community members, partners, and others who played a pivotal role in making 2023 an extraordinary year for the project.

In a shift from the previous year, no specific goals were publicized. Instead, the project adopted a focused, heads-down strategy, concentrating on integrating with numerous high-caliber projects. The aim was to establish dTWAP and dLIMIT as essential components in the DeFi landscape. This strategy, along with the advancements in Orbs' Liquidity Hub, integrations with TON, and the rapid expansion of Orbs’ global community and other non-technical achievements, unmistakably marks 2023 as the most successful year in the project's recent history.

New Heights in EVM

At the end of 2022, Orbs was integrated with SpiritSwap in the first-of-its-kind integration for the project. Orbs’ layer-3 (L3) technology was, for the first time, actively being integrated into DeFi protocols and used by end users. What started with SpiritSwap became a clear use case that other DEXs quickly sought to integrate. Today, dTWAP and dLIMIT have been integrated into nine different AMMs across seven chains. The two order types have completed millions of dollars in trading volume over the past year.

After introducing dTWAP and dLIMIT, Orbs launched QuickSwap Liquidity Hub, a comprehensive solution integrating directly with DEX AMMs. This platform combines liquidity from on-chain solvers and off-chain market makers, offering an innovative approach to tapping into additional liquidity sources. With Liquidity Hub, DEXs can try to execute trades bypassing the AMM to minimize price impact. Should the layer fail to secure a better price than the AMM, the trade reverts to and executes via the AMM contract as usual.

To date, the project has integrated six different liquidity sources, they are Paraswap, OpenOcean, Kyber, Dodo, Rango, and Orion Protocol. As we look towards the new year, the sources will grow to include market makers who will provide liquidity from off-chain.

Subsequently, Liquidity Hub extended its reach to Thena DEX on the BNB chain, achieving a combined trading volume of 20 million across both protocols YTD. Orbs' Liquidity Hub, a product generating fees and native to the crypto world, owes its success to the efforts of all participants in the layer-3 network and robust community support.

The collective success of this cannot be understated.

The Open Network Expansion

In the realm of non-EVM technology, Orbs has been making significant contributions to the core infrastructure to the TON blockchain. This initiative began with the development of TON Minter, Verifier, and Unfreezer, and has since evolved to include TON Access, a decentralized RPC. TON Access has rapidly become the primary RPC for dApps on The Open Network.

This past year also saw the launch of TON Vote, a user-friendly governance tool designed for DAOs within the ecosystem. TON Vote has quickly become the largest governance platform on TON, hosting over 46 unique spaces, including the TON Foundation itself. A notable instance was the 'TON Believers Fund' governance proposal, where the community was consulted about whether the foundation should commit its tokens to a five-year vesting period, ensuring alignment with long-term objectives.

Orbs' technical co-founder, Tal Kol, was appointed as a TON ambassador, playing a pivotal role in promoting growth and raising awareness within the wider crypto community. Additionally, the Orbs team backed two in-person hackathons for the network, held in Tel Aviv and London, and concluded the year by sponsoring TON Gateway, the inaugural conference of the TON foundation.

Community & Governance

This year has been a whirlwind of global engagement for Orbs, marked by participation in, hosting, or sponsorship of an impressive 27 events both locally and internationally. A standout figure in these efforts, Ran Hammer, delivered talks at 12 separate events. His most recent appearance was in Bangalore at India Blockchain Week, where he led a panel discussion on the latest trends in staking.

In Korea, Orbs made a significant impact by sponsoring and attending Korean Blockchain Week and also by organizing an exclusive 'Orbs Night' for the community and guardian members. Meanwhile, in Japan, Orbs Japan actively sponsored and hosted a series of events, nurturing and expanding the local Orbs community.

The Orbs community's on-chain activities were equally dynamic. They engaged in four separate governance proposals, involving a collective total of over 1.2 billion staked ORBS. Decisions made by the community included using the staking contract to restore funds lost in a hack, compensating multichain and FTX holders, enhancing staking rewards, among other significant actions.

Expanding Footprint

Not just at industry events has Orbs’ presence expanded. 2023 saw the skyrocketing of social media metrics for the project. The global Twitter profile saw a whopping 133% increase in followers from the start of the year, bringing the total Twitter followers to over 100K. The global Telegram increased over 180% for a total count of 9.2K. Similar increases can be seen in the Japanese and Korean local communities too.

Industry attention also grew as Orbs market pairs were added to over 23 new venues. These included both spot and perps markets on various platforms including Binance US, Binance Global, Bybit, OKX, Hyperliquid, and more.

Reflecting on 2023, it stands out as a year marked by exemplary execution for Orbs. The project has met and exceeded its objectives, with Orbs establishing itself as an integral part of the DeFi stack. The foundations laid over the past 12 months by the entire community are robust, poised to catapult the Orbs project to even more outstanding achievements in the upcoming year. The Orbs team extends its deepest gratitude to the rest of the participants in the project and the dedicated community.
